Kirkland Lake Lions Club named CJKL Citizen of the Year
The Kirkland Lake Lions Club has been named the 2024 CJKL Citizen of the Year. The members of the Lions Club hosted and organized several events and initiatives for the people of Kirkland Lake over the past year.
The Lions Club hosted the recent Free Family Day event, organized the local Terry Fox Run, launched the compassionate meal service, hosted the Food Bank fundraiser Trade a Can for a Cone, and introduced the youth organization the Leos Club to Kirkland Lake.
2024 was the Lions Club’s 4th year hosting the Free Family Day event at Northern College and the food bank fundraiser at CJ’s Restaurant. It was their 3rd year organizing the local Terry Fox Run in support of cancer research.
Last spring, the Lions Club introduced the compassionate meal service, a program that provides delivery or pickup of meals for 70-80 seniors, shut-ins and needy people in the area.
Upcoming events for the Lions Club include a pancake breakfast with the Easter Bunny on April 12th at the Museum of Northern History, the Vintage Vibes Dinner and show at the Legion on May 23rd featuring a Johnny Cash/Elvis Presley impersonator, and the club will also take part in the annual Canada Day celebrations at Civic.
This is the 36th consecutive year the CJKL Citizen of the Year Award has been presented to local individuals and organizations who have contributed to improving the quality of life for the people of Kirkland Lake.
The Lions Club now has 21 members with addition members being inducted in the near future. The 2024 CJKL Citizen of the Year award will be presented to the Kirkland Lake Lions Club during an on-air presentation in the coming weeks.
